Good for a lot, but not for everything
PET plastic is perhaps best known for its use in beverage bottles, yet suits a lot of food and beverage packaging since it’s approved for food contact. Like other plastics, PET is largely made from oil-based raw materials, but today there are even better opportunities to use both renewable raw materials, like corn and sugar cane, and to recycle the plastic several times. At IKEA, recycled PET becomes many things – from storage boxes to soft filling in pillows and quilts.
Heating food in a microwave oven is an easy way to satisfy a hungry mouth. It’s best to use a bowl or plate made of glass or porcelain. Despite the fact that you can heat food in our plastic products, it’s not recommended. Certain foods quickly reach temperatures over 212°F (100°C), which can destroy bowls and plates.
Baby-tested tools to tame mealtime chaos
Meals with babies and toddlers can be chaotic, to say the least, and when product designer Wiebke Braasch became a mother, she experienced the challenge of feeding a baby first-hand. First, there was the mess. Then there was the distress of watching her son struggle heroically to get peas to his mouth only to have them fall off at the last moment. It inspired her, and the resulting BÖRJA spoons and training cup and SMÅGLI plate and bowl are baby tested and approved.

If you want to avoid messy spills, complete with bowls and plates. They have high sides that keep most of the food on the plate.
