IKEA recalls the KULLEN chest of 3 drawers due to risk of tipping over

IKEA is announcing the voluntary recall from the market of the KULLEN chest of 3 drawers in birch and black/brown. The chest of drawers is not unstable when not fixed to the wall, which poses a risk to tipping and entrapment.

We ask customers with a KULLEN 3-Drawer Chest not to be properly attached to the wall, to stop using it, and to place it in an area where children cannot access it. If you have a recalled drawer, contact IKEA to choose between two options: order a kit to fix the drawer to the wall or receive a refund. Customers can order a self-installation repair kit, or IKEA will provide a free one-time home installation service upon request. IKEA will either accept in-store returns or arrange free pickup of drawers for a refund. Proof of purchase (a receipt) is not required.

In Puerto Rico the chest of drawers 803.221.34 was sold between March 2018 and December 2019, the rest were not available. In the United States the chests of drawers were sold between April 2005 and December 2019.

IKEA calls on the market regarding the MATVRÅ bib due to possible risk for children.

IKEA requests customers that have bought MATVRÅ blue/red bibs, to stop using it and get in contact with them.

IKEA has received two worldwide reports in which the closing button of the bib fell off, which posed a risk of suffocation. None of these incidents resulted in injury or occurred in the United States or Puerto Rico.

For this reason, IKEA has initiated a voluntary market recall of the MATVRÅ blue/red bib. We request customers with MATVRÅ bibs in blue or red to stop using them. The MATVRÅ bibs in green or yellow with fruit and vegetable prints are not included in this market recall and are safe as the materials and design are different.

IKEA requests the return of this item in order to obtain a full refund or a similar product, the bibs were sold between August and September 2019. The customer can go to any IKEA Store or Point to return it. Purchase receipt is not required.

IKEA of Sweden has received 29 global reports of injuries caused by falling shelves of HEMNES modules due to wood shrinkage. Seventeen of these reported incidents occurred in the United States, resulting in minor cuts and bruises, no incident occurring in Puerto Rico.

We require customers who need longer shelf support for HEMNES modules purchased from April 2010 through April 2017 to contact IKEA to receive new free hardware. Proof of purchase (a receipt) is not required to obtain replacement hardware.

IKEA is announcing a safety notice for the SUNDVIK changing table / chest of drawers in black-brown, gray-brown and white.

IKEA has received 3 reports of injuries due to the incorrect use of the safety locking fittings when the furniture is used as changing table. None of these incidents happened in Puerto Rico.

When the furniture is used as changing table, the changing table must be securely fixed with the safety locking fittings provided. KEA asks customers who have lost the safety locking fittings to contact IKEA to request a new safety locking kit, free of charge. Use the safety locking fittings AT ALL TIMES. IKEA recalls the GLIVARP dining room tables due to risk of the extendable piece falling.

IKEA asks customers who purchased the GLIVARP dining room extendable table to stop using it and contact IKEA for their return.

All IKEA products are tested and comply with the legislation and standards in force. Despite this, they have received reports that the extendable piece of the GLIVARP table pulls out of the rails and falls.

IKEA has been notified by customers about this risk and is taking precautionary measures with this notice, to protect customers and prevent other incidents, as safety of its products is of high priority and it a topic they take very seriously.

The item will be changed for a similar table or for a full refund, without the requirement of the payment receipt.

IKEA calls for the return of the CALYPSO ceiling lamp manufactured between 1625 - 1744 due to risk of the shade falling down

IKEA urges customers who purchased the CALYPSO ceiling lamp after the 1st of August 2016, to check the date of the product and call for those who have the lamp between the manufacture dates (yyww) 1625 to 1744.

IKEA has received customer notification that the shade of the lamp falls and in order to avoid risk of this happening to other customers, IKEA calls for the customers who have this CALYPSO ceiling lamp manufactured between (yyww) 1625 and 1744.

IKEA calls for all the customers who have the CALYPSO ceiling lamp manufactured in the indicated dates to return the product for its exchange of full refund. IKEA does not require any payment receipt.

IKEA calls on the SLADDA bicycle for possible breakage risk of the belt

IKEA has been informed by a recognised bicycle supplier that the transmission belt can malfunction and break suddenly which may result in falling. For this reason IKEA calls on customers who have SLADDA so that they stop using this bicycle. IKEA has received eleven reports with incidents, with two minor injuries.

The SLADDA bicycle has been awarded with the design award “Red dot award” and has been sold in 26 markets since the sales where initiated on August 2016. We are very proud of the beauty of SLADDA designed with the aim of creating a sustainable transport solution. We know that there are many IKEA customers who are satisfied with the SLADDA bicycle but to IKEA, safety comes first.

We request those customers who have a SLADDA bicycle to stop using it and to return it to any IKEA store to obtain a full refund. The accessories specifically designed to be adapted to SLADDA will also be refunded. The purchase receipt is not required.

IKEA Recalls MALM and Other Models of Chests and Dressers Due to Serious Tip-Over Hazard. Consumers Urged to Anchor Chests and Dressers or Return for Refund

IKEA is voluntarily recalling all chests and dressers that do not meet the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard (ASTM F2057-14). You can contact IKEA at 340 489 0444 or email: secureit@ikea.com to discuss how to participate in the recall.

The recalled chests and dressers are unstable if they are not properly anchored to the wall, posing a tip-over and entrapment hazard that can result in death or injuries to children.

The recall affects children’s chests and dressers taller than 23.5 inches and adult chests and dressers taller than 29.5 inches that do not meet the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard. The recalled MALM chests and dressers were manufactured and sold through June 2016 and include the 3-drawer, 4-drawer, 5-drawer and 6-drawer models. Other IKEA chests and dressers in this recall were sold at various times through June 2016.

Participating consumers can receive a full or partial refund or afree wall-anchoring repair kit.

Please immediately stop using any recalled chest or dresser that is not properly anchored to the wall and place in an area not accessible to children.

IKEA recalls LATTJO bat cape capa due to risk of strangulation or injuries to the neck

IKEA urges customers who have a LATTJO Bat cape to immediately stop children from playing with it and to bring it back to any Punto IKEA for a full refund.

IKEA is recalling LATTJO Bat cape after reports about three children that have received marks and scratches on the neck while using LATTJO Bat capes. The cape got stuck and didn’t detach easily enough from the neck of the children.

No injuries which required medical treatment have been reported, but due to the risk of strangulation or injuries to the neck, IKEA takes precautionary measures and recalls the product.

LATTJO Bat cape has been sold on all IKEA markets except Russia and Indonesia since November 2015.

IKEA recalls GUNGGUNG children’s swing due to fall hazard

End date: September 2014

IKEA urges customers who have a GUNGGUNG children’s swing to immediately remove the swing from children and bring it back to any IKEA Pick up Point for a full refund.

The suspension fittings can break in use. A child can fall from the swing, posing a risk of serious injury.

There have been four reports worldwide (in one in Germany, two in Austria and one in Canada) of the suspension fittings breaking in use. In one incident a child fell and sustained a fractured leg. No incidents have been reported in Puerto Rico.

The GUNGGUNG swing is intended for indoor and outdoor use by children ages 3-7. It is made of green polyester fabric and it hangs from an acetal plastic suspension fitting attached to a steel hook. The full length of the suspension strap, including the seat, is 17ft and the width of the seat is 0.8 ft. A permanent label is attached to one of the suspension straps, showing age recommendation (3-7), IKEA logo, Design and Quality IKEA of Sweden, GUNGGUNG, 8-digit item number (302.439.74), 5-digit supplier number (17915), 4-digit date stamp (YYMM) and Made in Vietnam.

IKEA recalls GOTHEM lamps due to the risk of electric shock

End date: March 2016

IKEA urges customers who have a GOTHEM lamp to immediately stop using it and to bring it back to any Punto IKEA for a full refund.

IKEA is recalling all GOTHEM floor and table lamps due to risk of electric shock, after some examples of damaged cables in the lamps have been found. Damaged cables can lead to the metal body of the lamp becoming electrically live and thereby being a safety hazard.

Even if the lamp is working, IKEA urges all customers that have a GOTHEM lamp to immediately stop using it and to return it to any IKEA Point for a full refund.

All three models of GOTHEM lamps – two table lamps and one floor lamp – are affected by the recall.

IKEA has not received any reports about people getting hurt, but has received incident reports from two customers and one store co-worker that have gotten electric shocks. Safe products are always an IKEA priority and we cannot accept the risk of any more incidents, and are therefore recalling the GOTHEM lamps to avoid injuries and to create awareness of the hazard.

The GOTHEM lamps have been sold on all IKEA markets since October 2015.

IKEA recalls LOCK, HYBY and RINNA ceiling lamps for risk of glass shade falling

IKEA urges customers who have a LOCK, HYBY or RINNA ceiling lamp to immediately remove it and bring it back to any IKEA store where they will receive a full refund.

IKEA has received customer reports of ceiling lamp glass shades falling. In a few cases medical treatment was required and one customer reportedly needed stitches.

IKEA takes product safety very seriously. All our products are tested to make sure they comply with applicable testing standards and legislation. In spite of this we have received reports that LOCK and HYBY ceiling lamps have fallen. In order to safeguard customers and avoid further incidents we are recalling the products for a full refund.

The LOCK and HYBY ceiling lamps have been sold on all IKEA markets, LOCK since 2002 and HYBY since 2012. The RINNA ceiling lamp has been sold in eleven European countries and in China since 2010.

IKEA recalls LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum for choking hazard

End date: January 2016

IKEA urges customers who have LATTJO drum sticks or LATTJO tongue drum to immediately remove them from children and bring them back to any Punto IKEA where they will receive a full refund.

This is a precautionary recall due to 6 reports from IKEA store co-workers that the rubber ball of the drum sticks can detach or be unscrewed. A loose rubber ball can attract smaller children and in worst case lead to choking. No incidents have been reported.

The products are tested and approved to applicable toy safety standards. However, during our subsequent investigation we identified risks that the standards do not address. Despite approved tests we are therefore precautionary recalling LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum to avoid any incidents.

IKEA recalls PATRULL nightlight for risk of electric chock

End date: September 2016

Note: Examples show an EU plug but the construction and risk is the same regardless of PATRULL nightlight plug type.

IKEA urges customers who have a PATRULL nightlight to immediately stop using it and to bring it back to any IKEA store for a full refund. The items affected are: PATRULL nightlight pink 702.411.38, PATRULL nightlight orange 302.411.40 and PATRULL nightlight white 502.390.23

IKEA has received one report where a baby boy played with the PATRULL nightlight. He tried to remove the light from the socket when the lid came off. The child got an electric shock and visible wounds on the hand.

Product safety is a priority for IKEA. Whenever an IKEA product is involved in an incident we take immediate action. The product was removed from sale the same day as the report came in and an investigation started. More than 600 PATRULL nightlights have been tested and they are all OK. In spite of this IKEA has decided to recall the lamp to avoid the risk of any further incidents.

PATRULL nightlight has been sold in Europe, North America and the Caribbean since 2013.

IKEA extends the cot mattresses recall due to risk of entrapment.

End date : June 2016
The cribs mattresses VYSSA and SULTAN are designed to be used with the IKEA cribs and ensure a comfortable and safe sleeping environment for babies and toddlers. A hole between the mattress and the crib could be a risk of entrapment.

IKEA has received two reports of children who have been trapped between the mattress and the edge of the crib, which were reported in the last recall. The children were removed from the hole without injuries.

This recall invoves any of the VYSSA and SULTAN mattress with the sizes of 52 "lenght by 27 ½" width and manufacturing date of May 04, 2014 or before. The identification can be found in a permanent label adhered to the cover of the mattress, that shows the manufacturing date Month-Day-Year and Model: name SULTAN or VYSSA.

Customers must verify that the mattress of their crib has the correct lenght. Taking measures of a possible hole when removing all the bedlinen, for example the mattress cover, and then make sure that there is no hole wider than two fingers between the mattress and the side of the crib. If the hole is wider than that, you must stop using this mattress and contact the Exchanges and Returns department in your IKEA store or call IKEA at (809) 567-4532, ext.6 to get a full refund.

It is recommended that only IKEA bedlinen is used with the VYSSA or SULTAN mattresses.

No invoice (receipt) is required to receive a full refund.

The cribs mattresses SULTAN and VYSSA have been sold in the United States since October 2000.

IKEA Recalls Pressure-Mounted Safety Gates Due to Fall Hazard.

Name of Product: PATRULL KLÄMMA and PATRULL SMIDIG Safety Gates

Hazard: The friction between the wall and the pressure-mounted safety gate is insufficient to hold the gate in its intended position, posing a fall hazard. In addition, the lower metal bar can be a tripping hazard.

Remedy: Refund. Consumers should stop using the safety gate and return it to any IKEA store for a full refund. Any PATRULL KLÄMMA /SMIDIG safety gate extensions may also be returned for a full refund. Consumers who want to keep their PATRULL KLÄMMA or SMIDIG safety gate for limited use in a doorway between rooms or at the bottom of a staircase can contact IKEA to receive free updated user instructions and new adhesive warning labels to put on their safety gate.
