General Terms and Conditions

What do the guarantees cover?

The extent of the guarantee of each product is described under each product.

Duration of the limited guarantee

Guarantee's duration depends on the conditions stipulated for each product and it's valid as of the date of purchase. The products that are not covered by these guarantees will be subject to a standard guarantee of 90 days, with the general conditions established in the guarantee policy.

What will IKEA do to correct the problem?

IKEA will examine the product to decide if it’s covered by the guarantee. IKEA will decide if the defective product will be repaired or replaced it with the same one or one with similar characteristics. In these cases, IKEA will be responsible for the costs of repairs, spare parts, labor and commutes, provided that it is possible to repair the product without incurring in any additional expenses. This will not have validity, under no circumstances, if the repair work hasn’t been authorized by IKEA. The defective parts removed in the course of repair works will become the property of IKEA. If the item is no longer sold by IKEA, IKEA will provide an appropriate replacement. IKEA will decide at its discretion, what will constitute an appropriate replacement.

Guarantee Conditions

The guarantees are valid from the date of purchase at IKEA. The original purchase receipt is required as proof of purchase.

What is not covered under this limited guarantee?

This guarantee is not applicable on products which have been saved or stored in an incorrect way, which have been misused or used incorrectly, which have been modified or altered, or which have been cleaned with unsuitable products or methods. This guarantee does not cover a regular wear, cuts, scratches or damages caused by impacts or accidents. This guarantee is not applicable if the product has been place outdoors or in a humid environment. This guarantee does not cover consequential or incidental damages. This guarantee will not apply if the products have been used for public use, except those cases in which the product specifies that it is apt for public use.

It does not cover plague damage: Damages caused by isoptera (termites), xylophagous (woodworm) or any other insect that damages the integrity of the furniture. The guarantees do not cover unintentional damage, accidental damage, lost profit, caused to the property or the physical integrity of the consumer. The guarantee is for domestic use only and the invoice made out in the name of a natural person, excluding office/business furniture.

How does the national, provincial and state legislation apply?

This guarantee grants specific legal rights, and it is complementary to the legal and statutory rights.

SOFAS AND ARMCHAIRS

Daily life at home requires a lot from sofas and armchairs. Our sofas have passed rigorous tests in order to guarantee the quality and durability standards, as well as complying with the most restrictive regulations for domestic use. For this reason we can offer a 10 years guarantee from defects in materials and manufacture that covers structures and cushions of our sofas.

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The sofas guarantee has a validity of ten (10) years of guarantee from the date of purchase. The original receipt is required as proof of purchase.

10 years guarantee in the following products:

All sofas, sofa beds, armchairs and footstools, excluding those of natural fibres and POÄNG.
 

What is covered under this limited guarantee?

This guarantee is only applicable to a domestic use and covers defects in materials and manufacturing on: structures and seat and back cushions.

Products/parts/components not covered by this guarantee:

  • Fabric covers.
  • Leather covers.
  • Coated fabric covers.
  • Armchairs and footstools of natural fiber such as AGEN, ULRIKSGBERG, ALSEDA, BUSKBO, HOLMSTAD, TOLKNING, GAMLEHULT and RÅDVIKEN.
  • POÄNG cushions.
  • POÄNG children's armchair.

We try our sofas and armchairs

At IKEA we try all our sofas and armchairs to be sure that they are durable. And we are specially demanding with those that have many years of guarantee. For example, we place a weight of 220 lb on the seat 50.000 times, and weights of 66 lb on the back of it the same number of times. And we do all of this to ensure that the structures will keep their stability and the cushions their elasticity and comfort. The guarantees we offer are proof that our sofas and armchairs can withstand being used frequently and during a long period of time, and are an assurance for you as a customer.

Care instructions

Cushions must be cared for so they keep their comfort. They must be fluffed in a regular basis, at least once a month. They also must be alternated, in a way that the cushions that are used the most interchange their place with those that are used less frequently.
Tighten the screws of the legs after two weeks of use, and make sure that they remain tight by checking twice a year.

Washable covers

  • Follow the maintenance and cleaning instructions.
  • Iron them while they are still a little bit damp.
  • Place the cover again when it is still a little bit damp, it stretches more easily and adapts quickly to the right shape. But it is important that the cover is not too damp when it is placed on the structure again.

Leather

  • Vacuum regularly with the soft brush accessory.
  • Don't place the leather furniture in direct sunlight and leave a space of 12" to any source of heat to avoid the lather from drying.
  • Never use detergents when cleaning them.
  • The white leather or light color furniture are sensitive to strong colors such red wine or coffee. For this reason they need to be cleaned immediately.

What is covered under this guarantee?

The guarantee covers the defects in the materials, manufacturing and functioning in all the components of the BEKANT, IDÅSENTROTTEN, FREDDE, UTTESPELARE and UPPSPEL series, the BEKANT, GALANT and TROTTEN storage system, the HÄLLAN wardrobes, the UPPSPEL glass door cabinet, from the day of purchase at IKEA.

What is not covered by this warranty?

The following products are not covered by guarantee:
  • EILIF Screens. 
  • UPPSPEL drawer

Care instructions

Tighten the screws after two weeks of using the product, and make sure they are well tightened by revising them twice a week.
For all surfaces: Clean it with a damp cloth with a mild cleanser. Then clean with a dry cloth.

Assemble the wardrobe following the assembly instructions and secure the structure by fixing it to the wall. Remember that different types of wall need different types of restraints. If you're not sure, contact a specialist. Clean it with a damp cloth with a mild cleanser. Then clean with a dry cloth.

MATTRESSES

IKEA mattresses have undergone rigorous tests to guarantee that they comply with our strict requisites regarding quality and durability, as well as comply with the most demanding regulations for domestic use. This means that we can offer you a 10 year guarantee that covers mattresses from defects in materials and manufacture.

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The guarantee for mattresses is valid for ten (10) years from the date of purchase. The original purchase invoice is required as proof of purchase.

What does this guarantee cover?

This guarantee covers defects in workmanship, materials and components of all our mattresses as of the date of purchase at IKEA. This guarantee applies to domestic use only.

What is not covered by this guarantee?

This guarantee is not applicable to mattress toppers and children’s and/or baby's mattresses nor the sleeper sofa mattresses, in these cases, a standard 90-day guarantee applies from the date of purchase.

Before using it for the first time

At the beginning your new mattress can seem a bit hard. Let a month go for your body to get used to the mattress and for the mattress to get used to your body.
Rolled up mattresses recover their shape after 3-4 days of use. All new materials have their own particular smell, that disappears gradually. Airing and vacuuming of the mattress will help to get rid of the smell. For a better comfort, you need the right pillow. Make sure you have a pillow that adapts to you and your new mattress.

Care and cleaning

Complement the mattress with a mattress protector or a mattress topper. It will make it more hygienic as it is easier to remove and clean. Some mattresses and mattress pads have a washable cover, read the label that you can find inside the pull-out cover for more information. Make sure that the zip is closed when washing the cover. Vacuuming the mattress helps to get rid of dust and mites. Use upholstery soap to get rid of stains.
Read closely the characteristics of your mattress, if it can be turned over, we recommend you turn it every three months (leaving the feet part and the head part and vice versa). This way you guarantee a more homogeneous wear and helps to prolong comfort.
Do not bend the mattress. You could damage the springs and the inside materials.

89 nights to change policy

It is important for us that you sleep well on your new mattress. If you discover that it doesn't completely satisfy you, after waiting one month for the body to get used to the mattress, bring us the new mattress and try a new one.
You have 89 nights to sleep on it!
*Except mattress toppers and children’s mattresses.
In order to change the mattress, it must not show any signs of stains or dirt. No money refund will be made on used or opened mattresses.
*IKEA Family clients have 120 days to change the mattress.

We offer you a guarantee from 3 to 10 years that covers defects in materials and manufacture on the GODMORGON bathroom series, all bathroom sinks and faucets, as well as the bathroom and laundry series ENHET. All accessories like bars, headrests, handles, hoses and supports for the faucet have a 3 year guarantee. 

GODMORGON and ENHET furniture series

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The guarantee for the GODMORGON and ENHET products is valid during ten (10) years and is effective from the moment of purchase. The original purchase receipt is required as proof of purchase.

What is covered under this limited guarantee?

This guarantee applies to domestic use only and covers defects in material and workmanship in the following furniture:

  • GODMORGON furniture.
  • GODMORGON legs.
  • ENHET furniture. 
  • Opened structures ENHET and laundry, inludes legs, countertops and cabinets.

What is not covered by this guarantee?

This guarantee does not apply to TOLKEN countertops and GODMORGON organizers.

Make sure that the walls of your bathroom support the weight of the furniture, as an incorrect installation can cause injury or damage. The guarantee for IKEA bathroom washbasins and taps is valid during ten (10) years from the date of purchase. The original purchase receipt is required as proof of purchase.

What is covered by this guarantee?

This guarantee is valid for all bathroom sinks, including water taps and faucets from IKEA. The guarantee only applies to domestic use and covers all defects of materials and manufacture of all wash-basins and faucets. Our products have been tested to comply with international standards and only the best materials are used to ensure our 10 year guarantee compromise.

Installation

What is not covered under this guarantee?

Damage from plagues: The damages caused by isomers (termites), xylophones (applegrub) or other insects that can damage the integrity of the furniture are not covered in the guarantee. The customer must present to IKEA a proof of fumigation from 7 to 3 days before the installation of the kitchen.

After sales service

In order to offer you functional products that meet your needs and expectations we renew our range every year. For this reason we cannot guarantee that all the products and prices are available during the whole validity year of the catalog.

Kitchen faucets

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The guarantee of IKEA kitchen taps has a validity of two (2) to ten (10) years and is valid from the date of purchase. The original purchase receipt is required as proof of purchase.

What does this guarantee cover?

This guarantee only applies to a domestic use and covers faults in the materials and manufacturing of all faucets. Our kitchen taps are tested under international standards and we only use very good quality components to ensure the 10 years guarantee.
10 year guarantee for all IKEA faucets.

Which products are not covered by this guarantee?

This guarantee does not cover the logical deterioration over time, cuts or scratches, or damages caused by accidents or waste of water. The filter does not apply either, it must be cleaned regularly and replaced once it's worn out.

Appliances

For how long is the guarantee valid?

The guarantee is valid for two (2) to five (5) years from the date of purchase of the appliance. The original purchase receipt is required as proof of purchase. If any service work is carried out during the limited guarantee period, this will not extend the limited guarantee period for the appliance or the new components.

What does this guarantee cover?

The guarantee covers the faults of the kitchen appliance that has been caused by faults in manufacturing or materials from the moment of the purchase. This guarantee it's applicable for domestic use. The exceptions are specified under what is not covered by the guarantee.

Which appliances are covered by this guarantee?

2 year guarantee for the LAGAN and TILLREDA series.
5 year guarantee valid for the rest of the IKEA kitchen appliances (except LAGAN and TILLREDA).

Which appliances are not covered by this guarantee?

No exceptions.

What does IKEA do to solve the problem?

Local guidelines and regularizations are applied to these conditions. The replacement is carried out by IKEA. If the service company repairs or replaces the appliance under the terms of the guarantee, this company will install the new or repaired appliance. The repair will be carried out whenever possible. If the appliance is installed in any other furniture, the customer has to uninstall it before the service visit.

Who will carry out the service?

The service company will provide the service according to their operative or a service network.

What is not covered by the guarantee?

  • Natural deterioration or wear.
  • Deliberate or negligent damage, damage caused by failure to follow the instructions properly, incorrect installation or by connection to the wrong voltage, damage caused by chemical or electro-chemical reaction, corrosion or humidity, damages caused by excessive lime in the water supply and by abnormal environmental conditions.
  • Requests to correct the installation of appliances, for instructions of use, to replace or repair fuses or correct wiring or plumbing.
  • Damage to the following parts: ceramic, accessories, dinnerware and cutlery baskets, feed and drainage pipes, seals, bulbs, lamp holders, screens, knobs, pipe casings and parts of pipe casings... unless such damages can be proved to be due to production faults.
  • Cases where no fault could be found during the technician’s visit.
  • Repairs not carried out by our appointed service providers and/or provided by the associated supplier or where non-original parts are used.
  • Repair or replacement of consumable parts like light bulbs, water filters or air filters.
  • Replacement of spare parts if there's not a normal use of the appliance, only domestic use, or when it is used in a different way than recommended by the operator or the installation instructions.
  • Damage produced by accident, alteration, incorrect use, abuse, fire, flood, incidental cases, improper installation, installation not carried out following the electric or plumbing codes, or inappropriate use of cleaning products.
  • Superficial damages including scratches, bumps, splinters, unless those damages are due to faults in the materials or manufacturing, and are informed within 30 days after the purchase was made.
  • Loss of food due to faults in the fridge or freezer.
  • Pickup and transport. The appliance is repaired at home.
  • The removal or reinstallation of the appliance if it's inaccessible or is not installed according to the instructions.
  • This guarantee is not valid if the original series number has been altered or modified.

This guarantee is valid for FÖRNUFTIG and STARKVIND air purifiers. Our products are tested under the most relevant international standards and we use the best components to ensure the promise of a 2 year guarantee.
This guarantee covers the entire functionality of the purifier. This means that, within a regular domestic use and following the maintenance instructions, the purifier will work as the fist day, even after 2 years.

SYMFONISK and VAPPEBY

2 year guarantee

This guarantee is valid for the SYMFONISK and VAPPEBY speakers. Our products are tested under the most relevant international standards and we use the best components to ensure the promise of a 2 year guarantee.
This guarantee covers the entire functionality of the speakers. This means that, within a regular domestic use and following the maintenance instructions, the speaker will work as the fist day, even after 2 years.

STORAGE: BROR

The guarantee of the BROR storage solution is valid from the date of the purchase. The invoice must be presented as proof of purchase.

This guarantee covers the items of the storage solution BROR that have been stored or assembled incorrectly, used in a wrong way, that have been altered or modified, or that have been cleaned with methods or cleaning methods that are inadequate.

This guarantee does not cover normal wearing out of the furniture, cuts, scratches caused due to hits or accidents. The guarantee does not apply if the product has been outdoors or exposed for a long time to the sun or at a wet place, like a bathroom. This guarantee does not cover the damages provoked by consequential or indicental damages. 
 

Care instructions

Tighten the screws two weeks after the first use of the product and make sure that they are well tigthened, checking them several times a year. For all the surfaces: clean it with a damp cloth and soft detergent, then dry it with a dry cloth.

  • Door pannels
  • Rails
  • Lateral pannels

  • Fittings

What doesn't cover the guarantee?

This guarantee does not cover: floor rails put on the floor nor any type of marks or damages made on the surface (floor, walls, ceiling, etc.) when installing or dismantle the doors, rails or pannels. This guarantee does not cover the wearing out by normal use, cuts or scratches, or the damage caused by hits, accidents or waste. Products that have been stored or installed by an unauthorized third party, the clients or that said one has not been made by IKEA, used in an unappropiate way o incorrectly, altered or cleaned with wrong methods or products, not recommended according the use manual of the item.

Damages by plagues: damages caused by isoptera (humid or dry wood termites, subterranean or common termites), xylophages (woodworms), ants, mice, insects from the Ptinidae Family, Cerambycidae Family, wasps, beetles, carpenter millers, or plant plagues or insects that damage the integrity of the furniture.

This guarantee does not apply if the item has been installed outdoors, at a courtyard, terrace or a warm environment (bathroom). It neither applies if the item has been altered somehow during its installment that has not been described in the intallation or assamblage instructions.
 

Maintainance intructions

Assemble the the doors following the assemblage instructions and securing them by fixing them to the walls and floor. Remember that different types of wall will need different types of fittings. If you are not sure, contact with a specialist. Clean the rail and the door wheels frequently to make sure they open and close easily and that the wheels are not damaged. Clean with a warm cloth in a soft cleaner. Then use a dry cloth.

General conditions

What does this guarantee include?

The scope of the guarantee for each kitchen assembly and installation service hired with IKEA.

Duration of the guarantee

Each guarantee lasts 2 years after the completion of the kitchen assembly or installation.

What will IKEA do to solve the problem?

KEA will examine the kitchen assembly or installation service to decide if it is under guarantee. If so, IKEA will decide whether to repair the defective service or decline due to misuse. In such cases, IKEA will be responsible for the repair costs, additional parts, labor and travel expenses incurred by the IKEA staff if the product is repairable without IKEA incurring extraordinary expenses to access it. This does not apply to cases where the repair has not been authorized by IKEA. Any defective parts removed during the repair will become property of IKEA in the event the customer is not interested in the part. In the event that the item is no longer being sold by IKEA or the product has been discontinued, IKEA will provide a replacement of equal value or features. You can request specific documentation for discontinued items at Customer Service.

Guarantee conditions

Guarantees are valid from the moment the kitchen installation or furniture assembly service is completed. The invoice, either printed or digital, must be shown as proof of purchase and identification of the holder. In the event of guarantee redemption (first time and consecutives), its term does not lead to renewal, and the remaining term will be honored retroactively to the date indicated in the purchase invoice.
In the case of resale or third party buyers, the guarantee period that comes with the good does not renew, the remaining period will be honored, retroactive to the date indicated on the purchase invoice of the first consumer or buyer.

Exceptions

Follow the care instructions carefully. Guarantees do not apply to products that have been improperly stored either by an unauthorized service provider or by the customer or in cases where storage has not been performed by IKEA, the product has been used improperly, abused, altered, or cleaned with unsuitable methods or products. Guarantees do not cover natural wear and tear, moisture, cuts, scrapes or scratches, or any damage caused by impact, shock or accident.

In order to benefit from these guarantees, you must follow the specific maintenance, use, care and cleaning instructions of each product.
