We want to evoke the same feeling with the items in the MÄVINN collection that we created and produced in collaboration with social businesses around the world. The modern design and traditional craftsmanship in textile and natural fiber together form a unique range for a bedroom; browse and pick favorites, just like at a local crafts market.
The objects in the MÄVINN collection are inspired by traditional Scandinavian homes where the decor is characterised by function, simplicity and natural materials. In collaboration with social businesses, the ideas have then been realised by skilled artisans who’ve given each object a unique expression. So when you choose to furnish your home with something from the collection, you are also helping to create jobs for people who need them the most. A wonderful bonus, right?
Together with ROPE, an organization committed to social entrepreneurship, we’ve created the handwoven MÄVINN placemats. Dyed cotton threads have been woven together with banana fibers that are otherwise often discarded after a harvest. The result: a geometric pattern where the splendor of color coexists with a natural warmth – and each one is entirely unique! This way, we not only create lovely items for your home, but also livelihoods for skilled artisans in rural India.

Vibrant colors and handmade details give the items an exclusive feel, but with a clear IKEA identity. Wool, cotton, jute, clay and natural fibers – the materials vary in color and texture and offer a lively look with a genuine sense of quality. The fact that everything contributes to the livelihood of the skilled artisans is a wonderful bonus!”
